“Boulder County Fire Mitigation Services from Professionals Who Care About Your Property”

If you live in the foothills and mountains of western Boulder County, the forest that surrounds you is beautiful and likely part of the reason you choose to live there. It can also become a significant hazard in the event of a wildfire.

With the guidance of our Boulder County fire mitigation experts, we can essentially perform many of the functions in the landscape that fire would have performed, only in a much less destructive way. By thinning trees and reducing fuels, we can help make your property more resilient to wildfire. By removing trees close to houses and widening access/egress routes, we can make your property safer for firefighters to work from in the event that a wildfire is approaching your home.

No matter what size your project is, from removing a single tree close to the house to designing and implementing a complete wildfire mitigation plan for your property, we at Patriot Tree Company are here to help. We have been providing Boulder County fire mitigation services for our neighbors in the mountains for the past 15 years, and would be happy to assist you in achieving your defensible space and fire mitigation goals for your property.

Boulder County Fire Mitigation through Wildfire Partners Program

Wildfire Partners is a nationally recognized model for wildfire mitigation that is now incorporated into Boulder County’s building code. We have participated in the Wildfire Partners program since 2016 and think that it is a fantastic resource for folks living in western Boulder County to get help with the costs associated with this type of work. This program is funded by Boulder County, the Colorado State Forest Service, and the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA).

Currently, all Boulder County homeowners participating in the program can receive 50% off of the total bid for the work, with a cap at $2,000. Once your application is accepted by Wildfire Partners, you will receive a comprehensive assessment of your property from a Wildfire Mitigation Specialist. Once that is complete, we can put together a bid for the work that their Specialist has recommended.

Many insurance companies are now dropping clients unless they have their property mitigated, often without warning. Wildfire Partners can assist residents who have had difficulty obtaining insurance or selling their home. They can be reached by calling 303-441-1420 or by emailing info@wildfirepartners.org. Frequently Asked Questions

How does Patriot Tree Company help reduce wildfire risk on my property?

Patriot Tree Company reduces wildfire risk by clearing hazardous vegetation, removing ladder fuels, and creating defensible space. These actions slow fire spread, reduce flame intensity, and protect homes and structures from direct fire exposure

Fire mitigation reduces wildfire risk by managing vegetation, spacing trees, and removing flammable materials. This process protects homes, improves safety, and meets Colorado wildfire preparedness guidelines, especially in high-risk areas. Homes that are well mitigated provide a safer space for fire crews to work from. During a wildfire, firefighters facing limited resources may need to decide between properties to defend, and will choose those that have defensible space to work from.

Patriot Tree Company creates defensible space by removing trees, clearing brush, and increasing space between vegetation and structures. Tree removal efforts focus on removing suppressed, infested, or otherwise unhealthy trees, which results in a healthier, more fire resilient forest post treatment. These actions reduce fire intensity and slow wildfire spread, which improves the ability of firefighters to defend your home during a wildfire.

Fire mitigation improves forest health by removing overcrowded, infested, or diseased trees that compete for resources with healthier trees. This process increases sunlight, water access, nutrient availability, and airflow through forest stands. This increased resource availability improves resilience to insects, disease, and environmental stress such as drought. Reducing tree densities has been shown to improve resistance of forest stands to infestation by mountain pine beetles.

Fire mitigation improves property safety and insurance compliance by reducing wildfire risk through vegetation management and defensible space creation. These actions lower fire hazards, protect structures, and align properties with insurer and local wildfire preparedness requirements.

Patriot Tree Company offers customized fire mitigation plans by tailoring recommendations to property size, terrain, vegetation type, wildfire risk level, and client budget. This approach ensures effective risk reduction, improves defensible space design, and aligns mitigation strategies with site-specific conditions. Every property is unique, and Patriot Tree Company’s wildfire mitigation experts take this into account when creating custom fire mitigation plans.

Fire mitigation maintains a natural-looking landscape by selectively thinning and pruning trees instead of clear-cutting. This approach preserves healthy trees, improves spacing, and balances wildfire safety with curb appeal and environmental health. Our clients are regularly remarking about how they enjoy the new look of their well-mitigated property, even those that were skeptical going into the process.

Certain activities, such as removing accumulations of leaves and needles and grass mowing/whacking, should be done every 3-6 months based on vegetation growth and seasonal conditions. Once a property has had proper forest thinning and tree removal close to structures performed, this work should be revisited once every 3-5 years. Regular upkeep ensures defensible space remains effective, reduces fuel buildup, and maintains consistent wildfire protection year after year.
